The future of England squash looks in safe hands. After the arrival of masters Noah Selby, Logan Willstrop and William Barker, world number one Nick Matthew announced today that he and wife Esme are expecting their first child in September.

National training camps may have to set up a creche when Daryl Selby, James Willstrop, Pete Barker and Nick get down to serious training, although they’ll probably be glad to escape home for a little rest.

Nick said today:”We found out on the first week of January that Esme was pregnant which was an amazing start to 2014!

“We have been through that incredibly exciting yet awkward period that any first time parent will sympathise with where you are desperate to tell people yet don’t want to jump the gun in case there are any complications.

“My mum, in particular, has been bursting at the seams dying to tell people she is going to be a grandma! On Wednesday we had our first scan and are expecting the baby to arrive in September.”

And Nick added on Twitter: “Thrilled to announce @Esmet1985 & I are expecting our first child in September! Arghh, I’m gonna be a dad!!! Any parental advice most welcome!”

No advice, Nick but plenty of congratulations. Roll on 2032 Olympics.

I have seen so many commenst about that the english team will become so strong in 20-25 years with the sons of Selby, Willstrop, Barker and now also Matthew. But in every article about Esme Matthew´s pregnancy I read that she is expecting a “child”. So why does everybody think that this child surely will be a boy?
