Christopher Gordon of the USA fully justified his seeding in the Tour De Las Americas El Salvador Open when he won the PSA World Tour Challenger 5 squash title at the Maya Country Club in the country’s capital San Salvador.

The New York-born 25-year-old prevailed in the semi-finals after England’s No4 seed Tom Pashley was forced to retire injured midway through the second game.

And his surprise opponent in the final was Joan Lezaud, the third seed from France who reached his second Tour final in a week against expectation after beating Argentina’s Hernan D’Arcangelo in straight games.

But Lezaud’s winning run in South America came to end when Gordon despatched the 25-year-old from Aix-en-Provence 11-5, 11-6, 11-9.

The success marks Gordon’s second PSA Tour title, following his breakthrough title triumph at the Japan Pro Yokohama in May 2009.
