Hurry! Commonwealth Games main ticket ballot closes on September 30th

By ALAN THATCHER – Squash Mad Editor

Squash fans have less than a week to apply for tickets in the Commonwealth Games main ballot which closes on September 30th.

British stars will be fighting for medals in Birmingham 2022 and organisers want to see the stands full to the brim and buzzing with fans.

In the women’s tournament, England’s Midlands-based Sarah-Jane Perry will be battling for glory on familiar territory with New Zealand’s Bristol-based Joelle King and Tesni Evans of Wales likely to be her main rivals.

Another Kiwi, British Open champion Paul Coll, is certain to be the men’s top seed, with Joel Makin of Wales tipped to meet him in the men’s final.

Just like Glasgow 2014, it promises to be a feast of entertainment in singles and doubles with squash taking place between Friday, July 29, and Monday, August 8 at the University of Birmingham Squash Centre. There will be 20 squash sessions in all, with three medal sessions.

England’s James Willstrop and New Zealand’s Joelle King took gold at the individual event during the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, while King also took gold in the women’s doubles alongside Amanda Landers-Murphy.

Australia’s Zac Alexander and David Palmer captured the men’s doubles gold medals, while Cameron Pilley and Donna Lobban won the mixed event for the Aussies.
