Ramy Ashour wasted no time in backing squash’s bid for a deserved place in the Olympic Games after retaining his Australian Open title.
Minutes after seeing off fellow Egyptian Omar Mossad on the glass court in Canberra, Ashour was interviewed by ABC News.
He said: “With no disrespect to other sports, but the presence of a lot of sports in the Olympics doesn’t seem to make any sense to me.”
After the final, Ramy and fellow Australian Open champion Nicol David waved banners supporting the Olympic bid.
Malaysian maestro David recently went on record to say: “I would swap all six of my world titles for one Olympic gold medal.”
