How many times have we heard a successful sportsman or woman celebrate a major achievement by uttering these words: “This is a dream come true”?

Turning your dreams into reality is the key target for all athletes, and their coaches.

Many people are in such a hurry to rush the process, that they don’t spend enough time dreaming their dreams, setting their goals, and working out how to achieve them.

So, let’s start with this obvious fact: Inside every champion is a dreamer.

I am sure that Richard Millman’s excellent article on Squash Mad about Ramy Ashour’s unconscious skills has provoked an enormous debate within the game.

I would love to talk to Ramy about his dreams, because he is clearly one of the best dreamers in squash!

Sports psychologists often instruct athletes to visualise the task at hand before stepping on to a running track, a football pitch, or a squash court.

But let’s start at square one, and write down our favourite dreams…

“If you don’t build your own dreams, someone will hire you to help build theirs”

“Please make sure you have dreams. Having dreams gives you power”

“Dreaming is free and it is enjoyable, so why miss out on one of life’s free gifts”

These activities will give you feelings of power and excitement. It will make you confident and will make you motivated NOW.

REMEMBER THIS: “It is your duty to Dream Big for yourself”

How often do you really imagine achieving your dreams? Do you still talk about them to people?

You have to remember what your dreams are because they remind you of why life is exciting and when you feel excited you feel like doing things.

What are your sporting dreams?

Update – Install App! Well done, you have given your brain a free and powerful update, just like you would do to speed up your phone.

You have just done one of the most important things you can ever do for yourself. You have dared to DREAM.

Most people do not have the confidence or faith to be able to feel their dreams, so give yourself another compliment now.

You have to really try and believe your dreams will happen for you. Then it is so much easier to work hard for them.

Dream3Faith
“Faith is knowing that by working hard and doing the right stuff, things will work out for you in the end.”
All sports stars have had to work hard now for a reward that they have no guarantees will happen for them.

Like all heroes, they go into the unknown with full force, armed with FAITH that it will all be worth it.

“Good things come to those who earn it”

Be your own Architect

Seeing is believing – you’ve really got to be able to see and almost feel the things you want to happen before they have.
Architects imagine, then design, then draw and then build their visions.

Can you become the Architect of your Sporting Achievements?

In centuries gone by, many architects knew that certain buildings would take more than 100 years to finish, but this did not deter them from visualizing what it would look like when completed. Their skills of imagination brought them their power and faith.

Their power came from their ability to be really clear about what they wanted. They could see the finished buildings in great detail. They imagined their building busy, working the way it should and how it fit in to the landscape.

The very best architects are good at seeing all the stages of their future projects as well. They know problems will happen and they know there will be times when it doesn’t look like things will get finished.

But the key thing is that they always go back to seeing the “end vision.” They still see the building finished in all of its glory. Because they can always see it, they BELIEVE it will be built.

‘My Vision’ Exercise

What do I Imagine when I think of your Sporting Destiny?

What level will I get to?

What will I win one day?

How will I look to everyone else?

How will I feel on the Inside?

Is there one special moment that I can really see happening?

“If I don’t take control of your imagination, I will easily let other people influence my destiny.”

Question: How can you ever hope to achieve your sporting dreams if you can’t even imagine them happening to you?

Answer: You can’t!

Do not Dwell on your Doubts: Be Positive, not Negative

Most people find it really easy to say why they have bad luck, or why things might not work out for them

Most people can think up more reasons why they can’t achieve a dream rather than why they can
Is this true for you?

If so, this is commonly known as being negative and usually leads to giving up.

Instead, flood your brain and day to day language with some of the positive words below. Pick three to focus on each training session and see what happens to your energy:

POSITIVE THOUGHTS:

Motivated Clever Positive Disciplined Reliable
Tough Relaxed Winner Energising Competitive
Quick Learner Supportive Confident Calm Assertive
Warrior Expressive Skilful Creative Bounces Back
Caring Strong minded Fighter Controlled Fair
Admired Role-Model Proud Honest Improver

NO ROOM FOR EXCUSES:
I’m not interested in your excuses and fears. All I am interested in is you giving me reasons why YOU CAN achieve your sporting dreams.

Give your brain five reasons now:-
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

You have to begin to recognise when you start to doubt yourself, so that you can immediately swap those doubts for reasons why you will get there

Good luck. Play with these ideas and build your DREAM POWER.
