World Squash Officiating has outlined its reasons which marred Diego Elias’ exit from the PSA Squash Tour Finals.
The Peruvian, aiming to end his season on a high after British Open success, had a match to forget as Joel Makin reached his first major final.
According to WSO rules, Elias was punished three times for unacceptable player conduct.
This included delaying play, including being late back on court, dissent to an official and abuse of equipment.
Elias was given four conduct actions, one warning and three conduct strokes.
He was handed a conduct warning in the opening game and a conduct stroke for being 15 lates back on court ahead of the third game with Elias behind in the match.

A second was awarded for dissent following the outcome of the first stroke. He then hit the ball “with anger” at the back wall following the end of the match.
“There were further examples of continued dissent at 4-0 and 5-1 with the match referee [Jason Foster] appealing for Mr Elias to accept the decision and continue to play…
“Mr Elias failed to accept the referee’s decision and authority, leading to escalating conduct violations and the multiple penalties awarded.”
There was no further indication of any potential ban for Elias.
In January, Elias’s Tournament of Champions ended in controversy following a referee contretemps.
