Windy City Open organisers suffer another blow as Duncalf pulls out
World number nine Jenny Duncalf has withdrawn from the Windy City Open in Chicago this week due to a slight Achilles injury.
The England number three, who was seeded eighth for the $50,000 event, revealed her decision was a precautionary measure ahead of the delayed 2013 Women’s World Championship in Malaysia next month.
“I need to be careful in the run-up to the World Championship,” said the 31-year-old, who earlier tweeted: “Gutted not on the plane to Chicago, but have the warmer climate of Penang to think about.”
The former world number two, who lost in the semi-finals of the British National Championship earlier this month, becomes the second high-profile absentee from the WSA Gold tournament, after seven-time world champion Nicol David opted to concentrate her preparation on the World Championship.
