Top seeds Eain Yow Ng and Jasmine Hutton captured the Cannon Kirk Gillen Markets Irish Open titles at the weekend.
Malaysia’s No.1 Ng was in sublime form as his movement proved too much for Egypt’s Aly Abou Eleinen and won in straight games.
Eleinen’s half and hour on court got off on the wrong foot, or shirt, when referee John Massarella asked the Egyptian to change his top.
The dark blue colours clashed with Ng, with Massarella stating that the lower-ranked player was obliged to change.
Once the final started, Eleinen was on the back foot in a light blue number.
After the second game, where he had been 6-1 up, he told the referee that he only had one change of shirt. He came back out in a borrowed dark green shirt but Ng, who reached last month’s Optasia Championships last eight, continued his form to win in three.
Earlier, England’s Jasmine Hutton beat the unseeded Aira Azman. The rising Malaysian took the opener before Hutton battled back brilliantly to win the title.
It was the Englishwoman’s sixth and biggest title of her career.
