Egypt’s young production line of talent will have to pay to play at the British Junior Open in January.
That’s according to Egypt Squash Federation president Assem Khalifa who cited a foreign exchange shortage crisis for the reason players will be forced to travel at their own expense.
Khalifa told CNN Arabic the federation had been facing issues for over a year “in obtaining the foreign exchange necessary to bear the expenses of the participation of official delegations in international tournaments outside the country due to the currency shortage crisis.”
“The internal crisis of the dollar shortage affects the federation’s ability to bear the participation of official delegations in foreign tournaments.”
Khalifa said that players wouldn’t be reimbursed to travel to the UK while it hopes to put on “strong internal tournaments for players to participate.”
Egypt has been dealing with a foreign exchange shortage crisis since last March due to the war in Ukraine.
Egypt hold three of the five titles on offer, which will be held in Birmingham between Jan 3-7.
