England’s Jasmine Hutton hailed the best week of her career as she captured the Sportwerk Hamburg Open, her biggest title to date, without losing a game.
Hutton played at a high intensity throughout against Nele Gilis which saw her axe top seed Salma Hany in the semi finals yesterday. The 27-year-old extended those tactics into today’s final, which helped her claim an emphatic 11-8, 11-7, 13-11 win for the 10th title of her career.
She will now have a hop and a skip in her form as she heads to this week’s Grasshhopper Cup and eyes ranking points ahead of her tilt towards the world’s top 10.
Hutton said: “Nele is an incredible player. She’s so gutsy. I just knew it was going to be a fight. We played each other at European’s last year and I think it was a 76-minute battle 3-2. I was 2-0 up and I went 3-2 down so I just had that in my mind that I really didn’t want to do that again. All credit to her, she’s such an amazing player.
“[Winning my first Bronze-level title] is really cool! It’s been a big goal of mine to get a big title. I wanted to hit a step up from the Coppers this year and really try and progress and win a Silver or a Bronze so I’m really happy to have done it here.
“It’s been a real confidence boost beating some of those girls ahead of me and I can just go into Grasshopper with a bit more of a free mind with no pressure and see how far I can go!”

In the men’s title decider, Aly Eleinen prevailed in the all-Egyptian battle with Soliman to secure his first piece of silverware this season.Â
Eleinen, who was runner-up at the Karachi Open earlier this year, made it back-to-back victories over his compatriot on the PSA Squash Tour to lift his second Bronze title.
World No.12 Soliman came into today’s final off the back of two lengthy matches, with his semi-final clash with Baptiste Masotti going beyond 100 minutes. Eleinen took full advantage of the enduring tussles Soliman faced, controlling the rallies and moving his opponent around the court to notch a 11-5, 11-8, 11-5 win to land his fourth Tour crown.
“Youssef is one of the closest people to me on Tour. We’re sharing a room actually this tournament and we’re basically sleeping next to each other!” he said afterwards.
“But Youssef’s been a training partner in Egypt for a while, we hang out a lot. I know he’s returning back from injury and to be playing at this level is just the start.
“I’ve been waiting for this title for a while now. I’ve had lots of heartbreaks. I came close in Pakistan, and then had a bad start in El Gouna, but I’m now working with Karim Darwish for a couple of months and he’s done it all. It’s helping me through the mental part. I pretty much speak to him every day to try and get my mind together. I’m glad to get it done and hopefully I can finish the season strong.”
