CIMB has renewed title sponsorship of two Malaysian squash events and its deal with number one women’s player Nicol David.
The Asean-based bank will sponsor the Malaysian Open as well as the 2013 Kuala Lumpur Open, which has been renamed the CIMB Nicol David KL Open in honour of the Malaysian player. CIMB have sponsored David for seven years.
“When we started negotiation in 2005, Nicol ranked No. 3 in the world. Since then, she has grown from strength to strength and has been world number one for six years now,” said Sri Nazir Razak, CIMB Group’s chief executive.
“She has been a fantastic ambassador for us and we want to continue playing a part in her outstanding track record in dominating women’s squash.”
Razak added: “We’ve also recently renamed the CIMB KL Open to the CIMB Nicol David KL Open as a tribute to her achievements. Her successes should be remembered and celebrated annually.”
CIMB extends deal with world number one David
Squash’s world number one Nicol David has renewed her sponsorship deal with the CIMB Group for a further two years.
The announcement coincides with the banking group’s fifth consecutive year as title sponsors of the Kuala Lumpur Open, which David will attempt to win for the sixth time this week.
CIMB Group deputy chief executive officer Datuk Charon Wardini Mokhzani cited Nicol’s “commitment to squash, her passion and tenacity” as the reasons for extended their partnership.
David was delighted to have her sponsorship renewed. She said: “It definitely will inspire me to go all out to live up to my billing in the KL Open.”
David has been world number one since August 2006, and has 41 career Women’s International Squash Players Association tournament wins. Her association with CIMB began in 2006.
