New regime has Sherbini ready for TOC comeback

By MICHAEL CATLING

Teenage superstar Nour El Sherbini will return to action at the Tournament of Champions early next year, Squash Mad can reveal.

The 18-year-old Egyptian, who has already won three WSA tour titles, has been plagued by injuries this year and has not played competitively since winning a record-breaking third World Junior Championship in July.

But the 2012 British Open runner-up, who has fallen to 15th in the latest world rankings, is confident her remodelled training routine will pay dividends in the New Year.

“I had a lot of injuries this year so I decided to spend the other half of this season to recover and start from the beginning of the year fresh and a hundred percent ready”, the former world number four told the Cairo Post.

“I changed everything in my training routine so I could blend in with the life of top 10 pro. You have to be ready for anything and that’s why I decided to slow things down and start some new training techniques.”

The Greenwich Open champion last featured on the WSA Tour at the British Open in May, where she suffered a second-round exit at the hands of Omneya Abdel Kawy.

However, the Alexandria-based youngster is now back in full training and will be looking to better her 2012 performance at the Tournament of Champions, where she fell at the semi-final stage to Natalie Grinham.
