Malaysian superstar enjoys sneak preview of Dubai venue

Eight-time World Champion Nicol David, the legendary Malaysian who held the World No.1 ranking for an unprecedented nine consecutive years, says the forthcoming 2015-16 PSA Dubai World Series Finals will be the perfect ending to what has been a spectacular season on the PSA World Tour.

David won the World Series Finals crown, which sees the top eight players on the Women’s Tour come together to contest one of the most lucrative prizes in the sport, in 2011 and 2012 and will be hoping to complete a hat-trick of crowns when the competition gets under way in front of the stunning Burj Khalifa on May 24.

“It is a nice finale for the season to be part of the World Series Finals and it’ll be my first time ever competing in a squash tournament in Dubai which is very exciting,” said David.

“This year it will be extra special and I’m sure it will be a real treat for all the players to be there playing on the glass court by the spectacular Burj Khalifa.

“The most exciting aspect is showcasing the best of the best eight men and eight women squash players altogether, battling it out to finish off the season at the top.

“It will be furious squash from the first day during the pool matches and that will be such an attraction for spectators – to see the best players all at once in one venue.”

David will begin her bid to win the title for the third time against American Amanda Sobhy before facing England’s Laura Massaro and Egyptian Nouran Gohar in the best-of-three group stages in what promises to be an electric five-day event.

David has already enjoyed a sneak preview of the venue, having travelled to Dubai for a photo-call with men’s top seed Mohamed Elshorbagy when the glass court was set up in front of the Burj Khalifa.
