PSA announces switch to weekly ranking lists

By ALAN THATCHER (Squash Mad Editor)

The Professional Squash Association has announced that the world rankings will now be calculated and published weekly starting next Monday (August 29).

Previously, the PSA World Rankings were published on the first day of each month, but from August 29 onwards, the rankings will now be published every Monday.

Announcing the switch on its website, the PSA said: “Weekly rankings will ensure tournament entry lists reflect the most recent player performances and allows for greater movement up and down the PSA World Rankings.

“A player’s points will comprise their 10 best tournament results for men and nine best tournament results for women.

“Points will be removed 52 weeks after being added to a player’s ranking. Points will be allocated for a tournament the Monday after a tournament finishes.

“If a tournament finishes on a Monday, for example, those points would not appear until the following Monday’s rankings update.”

The new PSA World Tour season begins with the CIB Zed Squash Open between August 24-28, with the first weekly PSA World Rankings update coming the day after the final.

This means star players including Salma Hany, Nour El Tayeb, Youssef Soliman and Victor Crouin will all be looking to make strides up the rankings following their week in Cairo.
