Finn Tuominen Flies Back Into World Top Twenty

1 June 2011

Flying Finn Olli Tuominen makes a welcome return to the world top 20 after a 20-month absence, according to the JuneDunlop PSA Men’s World Squash Rankings published today by the Professional Squash Association.

An unchanged top ten sees England’s Nick Matthew maintain his 2011 grip on the world number one ranking – the 30-year-old from Sheffield taking up his sixth successive month at the top.

But, after winning the Hurghada International on home soil last month, Egyptian rival Ramy Ashour has taken his PSA World Tour title total to 20, and narrowed the gap behind Matthew at No2.

Meanwhile, fellow Egyptian Karim Darwish is in third place and England’s James Willstrop at No4.

After a slump in form which saw his ranking slip to 25, Olli Tuominen enjoyed a sensational run in Hurghada – where he upset both Frenchman Thierry Lincou, the world No8, and Egypt’s former world No13 Mohammed Abbas to reach the event’s semi-finals unseeded.

The former world No13 from Helsinki moves up two places to No20, thereby making his first appearance in the world top 20 since September 2009.

But Omar Mosaad has also consolidated his status as the sixth highest-ranked Egyptian by rising to a career-high world No14. The 23-year-old from Cairo celebrated his third PSA World Tour final appearance of the year at the Kolkata International in India in April, and last month reached the Hurghada International quarter-finals unseeded.
