Scotland’s Greg Lobban claimed the Budapest Open title yesterday after beating England’s Patrick Rooney in the final to win his 16th PSA Tour title. The Scot was in scintillating form all week and after beating dangerous Japanese player Ryunosuke Tsukue in the semi-finals, faced an in-form Patrick Rooney in the final, who was looking for his first PSA title since November 2023. The Scotsman didn’t drop a single game on route to the Copper event title.

Mosaad retires

Former World No.3 and 2015 World Championships runner-up Omar Mosaad has announced his immediate retirement from the PSA Squash Tour after almost 21 years on the tour.

‘The Hammer of Thor’ featured in an impressive 276 PSA tournaments throughout his career, playing 613 matches in total. The now 37-year-old has given his all to professional squash since first emerging on the tour in 2005 but has called time on his career but remains grateful to the sport and has aspirations to stay in the game in a different capacity.

“It has been an incredible journey. Looking back, I feel very proud of everything I’ve achieved and grateful for the experiences this sport has given me,” said Mosaad.

Gohar pulls out of events

World No.1 Nouran Gohar has withdrawn from the two upcoming Platinum events, the QTerminals Qatar Classic and Comcast Business US Open due to personal reasons. 

The Egyptian was the top seed for both events and her omission is a blow ahead of the US Open, just as the rivalry with Hania El Hammamy went up a notch at the recent Egyptian Open.
