Unseeded Dillon Huang and Olivia Weaver, the top seed, claimed the US men’s and women’s national titles in contrasting finals at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.
Huang, the 24-year-old Californian, toppled third seed and world No. 82 Nick Spizzirri 11-8, 11-7, 11-5 to win his first career US men’s championship title.
Spencer Lovejoy had earlier beaten top seed Timothy Brownell, looking for his third national title, in the last eight while Spizzirri had reached the final after second seed Shahjahan Khan was forced to retire with the former two games up.
Meanwhile World No. 4 Weaver came back from 2-1 down against six-time champion Amanda Sobhy to win her third consecutive national trophy.
Weaver, who recovered from a hamstring injury that forced her to withdraw from the El Gouna semi-finals, won 11-3, 10-12, 9-11, 11-1, 11-3 as Sobhy perhaps felt the effects of her last four match.
Sobhy had beaten Maria Stefanoni 11-8, 3-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-8 in another five-gamer.
