Salma Soars To Persian Gulf Success

Egypt’s Salma Nassar celebrated title success in the inaugural Women’s International WISPAPersian Gulf Championship after upsetting both of the top two seeds in the WISPA World Tour 4squash event at the Kish Island Olympic Sport Complex at Kish Island in Iran.

The 19-year-old third seed made her breakthrough in the semi-finals where she battled to a five-game victory over Lucie Fialova, the event favourite from the Czech Republic ranked 47 in the world.

Spurred on by her success, the world No 118 recovered from a game down in the final to overcome fellow Cairo citizen Merhan Amr Mahmoud, the second seed ranked more than 20 places higher, 7-11, 11-2, 11-3, 11-7.

The triumph marked left-hander Salma Nassar‘s first WISPA Tour title success – in her maiden final appearance.
