World Squash Championships 2025 set for Chicago with £1.3m prize money

Chicago’s Lakeshore Sport & Fitness will host the PSA World Championships in May, with over one million dollars in prize money.

The sport’s showpiece returns to the Windy City between May 9-17. It will be the fourth time the world champs have been held in Chicago since 2019.

A state-of-the-art glass court will be erected at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness, where the likes of Peru’s Diego Elias and Egypt’s Nouran Gohar will look to retain the titles they won in dramatic fashion last year in Cairo, Egypt.

The tournament will feature the richest prize purse in the history of professional squash, with more than $1,300,000 of total player compensation up for grabs.

As well as Lakeshore Sport & Fitness, the University of Club of Chicago – which has hosted the Windy City Open since 1982 – will host matches from round one of the tournament.

“We are thrilled to bring the PSA World Championships back to Chicago, a city which has a rich association with professional squash,” said PSA Chief Executive Alex Gough.

“This will be the fourth time that our most prestigious event is held in Chicago, while the Windy City Open has been a highly-anticipated part of the squash calendar since it began in 1982.

“I’d like to thank Mark and Kim Walter for their continued support as well as the teams at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness and the University of Club of Chicago for their hard work in staging the tournament. The PSA World Championships always showcases the best that professional squash has to offer, and I’m excited to watch the drama unfold in May.”

Lakeshore Sport & Fitness Senior Director John Fitzgerald said: “Lakeshore Sport & Fitness is honoured to host this year’s world championships, set against the stunning backdrop of our naturally lit venue.

“We look forward to celebrating this prestigious event while also showcasing our exceptional food and beverage offerings in a setting designed to enhance both competition and community. Guests will not only witness incredible squash but also experience the vibrant hospitality and amenities that make our club a premier destination in Chicago.”

Tickets will go on general sale on Thursday from here.
