Jonathon Power is creating quite a stir with his new National Academy in Toronto. This week he attracted more headlines as he predicted stardom for a young Pakistani player, Maria Toorpakai Wazir. She and her family had to flee from death threats from the Taliban to move to a new life in Canada.
Maria, now 20, is making great strides under Power’s coaching regime and he predicts that she will be a future world champion.
It is a moving and an amazing story, beautifully told in a fascinating article by Nicki Thomas in The Star.
