Nicolas Caballero honoured by IOC ahead of the 2014 Youth Olympic Games
Teenager Nicolas Caballero has been named Paraguay’s Youth Olympic Games Ambassador for the 2014 Games in Nanjing.
Caballero, 19, won a bronze medallist at the Pan American Games Men’s Doubles Squash event in Guadalajara in 2011 and will join over 100 inspiring young people who were selected by the IOC board members.
The teenager from the Paraguay capital Asuncion has since netted successive individual bronze medals in the South American and Pan American junior championships, before claiming a silver medal in Paraguay’s first appearance in the Bolivarian Games in Peru last November.
“Nicolas is the youngest ever Pan American Games medallist from Paraguay and, besides that, we believe it will encourage him to keep working hard as an athlete in his sport,” said Camilo Perez, President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee.
The young ambassadors feature Olympians and YOG alumni, sports coaches, students and young professionals between the ages of 18 to 25.
The group will gather in Nanjing next month for a four-day seminar, when they will be fully briefed on their role, experience some of the workshops and activities that will be available to the athletes during Games times and sample Chinese culture.
