Coline Aumard thrilled the partisan crowd at the Women’s Open International des Volcans by providing the first home winner of the WSA Tour 5 squash event in its second year at Hpark in Clermont-Ferrand, France.

The top seed from Creteil, near Paris, fought through to the final without dropping a game.

It was a surprise opponent that Aumard faced in the climax – seventh-seeded Colombian Catalina Pelaez, who upset the form book by overcoming No2 seed Tamika Saxby in the quarter-finals when the world No.63 from Australia was forced to retire injured after two games.

Bogota-based Pelaez, ranked 107 in the world, went on to defeat England’s unseeded Leonie Holt in the semis to reach her maiden Tour final.

But world No47 Aumard was unstoppable in the final, beating the 23-year-old Colombian 11-6, 11-1, 13-11 to claim the fourth WSA World Tour title of her career.

Aumard’s title success was her second in a row – after winning the North Coast Open in Australia last month – and established a new all-time high eight-match unbeaten Tour run by the 25-year-old.
