Danish Atlas Khan wins the battle of the brothers in Iran final
Pakistan’s Danish Atlas Khan toppled older brother and defending champion Aamir Atlas Khan to win the Kish Persian Gulf Cup and reclaim the PSA Challenger 5 title he first won at the Olympic Squash Complex in Iran three years ago.
The Peshawar-based duo survived five-game semi-finals to endorse their top two seedings, with number one seed Danish taking 88 minutes to overcome Kuwaiti fourth seed Yousif Nizar Saleh 11-4, 9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, before second seed Aamir, 23 twice came from behind to battle past England’s Youssef Abdalla.
The final, the sixth PSA career meeting between the Khan brothers’, saw Danish record only his second victory over his elder sibling with a 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8 victory in 70 minutes.
The 20-year-old beat Aamir at the CAS International on home soil last September and the world number 72 repeated the feat again to triumph in his 10th PSA final and claim his sixth Tour title.
Danish said in his post match interview: “We both train together and last night played 3-2 but again today was such a long match and he was defending champion and I won this event three years ago and lost to Aamir last year.
“We are happy with our performance and I am happy here in Kish island, it is such a beautiful island good weather, and personally thanks to Kish free zone and Kish sports center for this event.”
