New Eygyptian coach Omar El Morolossy (above) surveyed the damage at Manchester after eight of his squad lost in the first round and admitted “We need more discipline and consistency with the players. I hope to also add this and more organisation to the players’ schedules.”

El Borolossy, a former top 15 player, added “The Egyptian style is one where we have the shots, variation and talents. Hopefully I can bring stability. Everything is going well back home and we still need to sort out assistance with the players and travelling schedules but otherwise things are going well.”

All the top players progressed, including Ramy Ashour, Amr Shabana, Karim Darwish and Mohamed Elshorbagy, though the latter was four points from defeat before beating England’s Adrian Waller in five.

Only qualifier Fares Dessouky impressed after he came back from two games down to beat Scotland’s Alan Clyne. Meanwhile, Mazen Hesham, Omar Abdel Meguid, Karim Gawad and Mohamed Abouelghar all went down in five.
