Legend McKay to appear as special guest at the Forbes Squash Open
Squash legend Heather McKay has been revealed as the guest of honour at the annual Forbes Squash Open next month.
The 72-year-old Australian retired from squash over three decades ago but is widely considered one of Australia’s best ever sportswomen, having won the the British Open a record 16 times and remained undefeated between 1962 and 1981.
Organisers of the Forbes Squash Open met McKay at the Australian Open last year and Forbes president Garry Dempsey extended an invitation to attend the Forbes Golf and Sportsman’s Hotel event at a more recent meeting.
The tournament, which is expected to attract 100 athletes to Forbes, will be held from March 15-16, with McKay scheduled to give a talk at a dinner function on the second night of the event. Forbes is in rural New South Wales, 230 miles (371km) west of Sydney.
