Marwan Elshorbagy downs Delierre to win in Guatemala

Egyptian world No.20 wins final in straight games

Egyptian Marwan Elshorbagy claimed his first tournament title of 2014 and his fourth career title to date after beating Canada’s Shawn Delierre in the final of the VII Torneo Internacional Sporta in Guatemala.

The 20-year-old World No.20 saw off Delierre, the World No.74, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 to end his tournament in emphatic fashion, cruising to victory while dropping just game throughout the entire tournament.

“I’m happy to win my fourth PSA title here in Guatemala,” said Elshorbagy. “It’s been a great week and a great season and thanks to everyone for the support.”

Elshorbagy shakes off Gordon in semis

Egyptian World No.19 Marwan Elshorbagy will face Canadian World No.71 Shawn Delierre in the final of the VII Torneo Internacional Sporta, PSA International 25 tournament in Guatemala.

Elshorbagy, the number one seed, came through his semi-final against American Christopher Gordon with a comfortable 3-0 victory while Delierre was equally commanding as he eased past Mexican challenger Alfreda Avila 3-0.

The 20-year-old from Alexandria who has yet to drop a game in the tournament will be hoping to get the better of the more experienced Delierre, the 32-year-old from Montreal, and land his first title since winning the Edmonton Open in 2013.

Avila takes out Grayson in quarter-final upset

Mexican World No.58 Alfredo Avila remains in contention to win the VII Torneo Internacional Sporta, PSA International 25 tournament in Guatemala after pulling off the biggest upset of the quarter-finals to beat number two seed Campbell Grayson.

The 22-year-old from Mexico City took out Grayson, the World No.42 from New Zealand, in an impressive 3-1, 12-10, 11-13, 11-1, 11-2 performance to avenge his defeat to the Kiwi champion in the semi-finals of the Las Vegas Open just one week ago.

Avila will now take on Shawn Delierre in the semi-finals after the Canadian World No.71 upset Mexican number one Cesar Salazar 3-1.

Top seed Marwan Elshorbagy came through his quarter-final match-up against Malaysian Muhh Asray Azan with a comfortable 3-1 win and he will face American Christopher Gordon in the second semi-final.

Seeds ease through in first round
Number one seed Marwan Elshorbagy lead the way as all eight seeds progressed through the opening round of the VII Torneo Internacional PSA Sporta, PSA International 25 tournament in Santa Catarina Pinula, Guatemala yesterday.

Elshorbagy disposed of French qualifier Joan Lezaud in a comfortable 3-0 victory while number two seed Campbell Grayson of New Zealand also eased through his first round encounter with Spain’s Alejandro Garbi Caro 3-0.

Number three seed Cesar Salazar, the Mexican World No.41, was forced to work hard for his place in the quarter-finals, coming from 2-1 down to England’s Joel Hinds before eventually sealing an 11-5, 5-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-2 win.

There were also wins for Muhd Asyraf Azan, Jaymie Haycocks, Christopher Gordon, Shawn Delierre and Alfredo Avila.
