WORLD CHAMPION Nick Matthew set up a Qatar Classic final showdown with Mohamed lE Shorbagy after defying giant-killer Borja Golan in Doha last night.

Matthew, who was crowned world champ in Manchester two weeks ago, showed no signs of slowing as he dominated the Spaniard 11/8, 11/6, 11/5 in 47 minutes. It was unlikely that Golan could repeat his feat of Wednesday when he ousted No.1 seed Gregory Gaultier, and so it proved.

And so it proved as Matthew stamped his authority, led in all three games and finished with a cheeky nick serve.

The Englishman said afterwards:” Borja’s been improving and his boast is a killer, especially on this court. But unfortunately for him I was a bit fresher tonight.”

Shorbagy totally dominated his semi final with fellow Egyptian Karim Darwish winning in a rapid 35 minutes.

“I had a game plan against him and I had to try and maintain it for the whole match. Winning 3-0 is a big bonus as I know I’ll be fit tomorrow,” said Shorbagy.
