Local favourite Miguel Angel Rodriguez, the World No.14, eased through the first round of the PSA International 50 tournament, the XVII Abierto Colombiano de Squash Club El Nogal in Bogota, Colombia, beating Mexican Cesar Salazar 3-1.

Rodriguez, the highest ranked South American squash player of all time, started poorly against the World No.46, losing the first game courtesy of some wayward play, but he quickly regained his rhythm to record an 11-13, 11-7, 11-9, 11-4 victory in just 38-minutes.

The tournament winner in 2010 and runner-up in 2012, Rodriguez will now face Egyptian Omar Abdel Meguid in the second round after he beat qualifier Raphael Kandra 3-1.

Tournament favourite Simon Rösner, the World No.11 from Paderborn in Germany, began his title challenge in impressive fashion, dispatching Muhd Asyraf Azan 3-0.
