Trinity edge thriller to win Howe Cup

Kimberley the hero for Trinity as they upset Harvard to win CSA National Team Championship

Trinity victory

Trinity College Bantams ended a six year losing streak against Harvard University Crimson to win the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship in dramatic fashion at Princeton University’s Jadwin Courts.

With the scores tied at four-apiece, first year Anna Kimberley beat Saumya Karki 7-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-9 at number four to hand Trinity their third National title and first since winning the Howe Cup in back-to-back years in 2002 and 2003.

Victory for The Bantams avenged their final defeat 12 months ago and also ended a wretched nine-match losing streak against the Crimson.

“This is incredible,” said Trinity Head Coach Wendy Bartlett. “It has been a long time, 11 years since we won this, but we knew this was going to be our year.

“The girls worked very hard. My heart and my stomach were up and down up and down, but these girls wanted it. They really did. Anna is incredible. She came in here as a first-year – went undefeated – and won the final match for a National Championship.”
