Impressive Parker reigns in Spain
George Parker defeated fellow Englishman Chris Fuller in the final of the XVI Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona, PSA M5 tournament to lift his first ever PSA World Tour title.
Leicester-born Parker, the number four seed, saw off Aitor Zunzunegui in the quarter-final before besting Iker Pajares Bernabeu in the semi-final stage. Fuller on the other hand eased past Daniel Poleshchuk and then went on to dispatch Hugo Varela in four.
It was Parker who started the better of the two as he kept up a number of consistent backhand drives to move Fuller into the back of the court before attacking near the front. This approach paid dividends for the World No.103 who quickly built up a two game lead.
Third seed Fuller, who was appearing at his third final in his four previous tournaments, fought back in the third to claw a game back as he looked to disrupt Parker’s rhythm.
However, the 19-year-old came storming back in the final game to secure an 11-7, 11-2, 7-11, 11-8 victory to kickstart his PSA World Tour title success.
